You Betcha!Republican Georgia Secretary of State Raffensberger claims Republicans want him to throw out legal ballots.
Trump and his proxies trying to steal the 2020 election remind me of the escapades of Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner. Currently, Trump and the GOP have filed 24 lawsuits and 23 of them seem to be thrown out or going nowhere. Here’s what election lawyer Marc E. Elias said on Twitter today:
Enough already! It’s time for the adults in the room to notify Donald Trump that he has to stop his temper tantrums where in fits of anger, revenge, refusal to face reality, grief over losing the election, and ‘fill-in-the-blank’ reasons, he fires top leaders in his administration and installs political toadies and hacks who have no experience to be in those positions. The problem is when it comes to our Defense Department and intelligence positions, this is dangerous for the U.S., Democracy and the world.
Then there’s Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, and the Republican spineless crew that refuse to speak truth to Trump that it’s time for him to grow up and stop acting like a two-bit dictator because he lost the election.
Joe Biden Assembles a Pandemic Task Force: While the pandemic is raging in the U.S. and we have more people infected and dead from COVID-19 than anywhere in the world, Trump is acting less like a leader of the U.S. and more like a child having a meltdown because someone else won at the party. The only person acting like a real president and leader is President-elect Joe Biden who has already appointed a special pandemic task force of people who actually have expertise in science and medicine. Biden’s pandemic task force has no requirement for it’s members to sign a loyalty oath. That’s refreshing! So far, Joe Biden, being the responsible adult in the room, is urging everyone in the U.S. to wear a mask to save thousands of lives. Wearing a face mask has been proven to increase the chances of protecting the wearer from COVID-19 infection and also from the mask-wearer from possibly infecting others. That’s a good thing.
Georgia: Battleground Election to Determine Control of the U.S. Senate
The reality is that Republicans still have no guarantee that they will retain control over the U.S. Senate. There is a good chance that if Democrats can register voters and turn out the vote for the January 2021 Senate Georgia Run-off election, they will be able to take back the Senate. Also, Alaska still has thousands of mail-in ballots to count beginning on Thursday, November 12, 2020 when all mail-in ballots must be received.
Meanwhile, what the heck is Trump trying to do? Is he doing a slow moving coup? Is he lying to the public to raise money for his lawsuits and debts and, therefore, trying to keep his base upset so Trump can still collect money for his own personal purposes? Or, is Trump really trying to set the stage to refuse to leave the White House?
New information came out in the last few days about Trump’s SCOTUS nominee, Amy Coney Barrett. The school where she served as trustee deliberately rejected students who were from gay parents. Really? The school rejected the children? Yes, they did. Here is an article that explains it all:
If you have a case that goes before the Supreme Court, you would hope that the person who would be hearing your case is unbiased. Amy Coney Barrett seems to fail this basic test for a judge, let alone a judge who would be on the Supreme Court of the United States for life. Amy Coney Barrett’s judgments would potentially affect the US Supreme Court and Americans for possibly three to four or more decades.
The above-referenced AP article includes an interview with Professor Suzanne B. Goldberg of Columbia Law School:
Suzanne B. Goldberg, a professor at Columbia Law School, said private schools have wide legal latitude to set admissions criteria. And, she said, Trinity probably isn’t covered by recent Supreme Court rulings outlawing employment discrimination against LGBTQ people because of its affiliation with a religious community. Cases addressing those questions are likely to come before the high court soon, she said.
“When any member of the judiciary affiliates themselves with an institution that is committed to discrimination on any ground, it is important to look more closely at how that affects the individual’s ability to give all cases a fair hearing,” Goldberg said.
Therefore, the fact that Senator Mitch McConnell is plowing through the Barrett nomination less than 13 days before our November 3, 2020 election is wrong and shows the lack of integrity of McConnell, Graham, Tillis and all the GOP Senators who support this travesty.
The American people need to have time to properly vet a Supreme Court nominee. Amy Coney Barrett tried to appear as if she was just like RBG in how she responded to the Senator’s questions. However, Barrett was no RBG. Barrett failed to answer basic questions about voting rights, women’s rights, and the science of climate change. Barrett invoked RBG and then proceeded to fail to be as transparent as RBG was on basic rights.
The Hypocrisy of Senate Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Judiciary Chair, Lindsey Graham:
Lindsey Graham in 2016 on the Senate Judiciary Committee said (see above video for proof):
“This will stand the test of time. This is the last year of a lame duck president and if Ted Cruz or Donald Trump get to be president, they’ve all asked us not to confirm or take up a selection by President Obama. So, if a vacancy occurs in their last year of their first term, guess what, you will use their words against them. I want you to use my words against me. If there’s a republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said, “Let’s let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination, and you can use my words against me and you’d be absolutely right.” We’re setting a precedent here today–Republicans are–that in the last year, at least of a lame duck eight-year term, I would say it’s going to be a four-year term, that you’re not going to fill the vacancy of the supreme court based on what we’re doing here today.”
Then in 2018 Lindsey Graham said while being interviewed on TV: (see above video for proof):
“If, an opening comes in the last year of President Trump’s term and the primary process has started, we’ll wait til the next election. Hold the tape.” Lindsey Graham said this when he said he would not nominate a Supreme Court Justice in the last year of the first term of Donald Trump’s administration if there was a vacancy on the Supreme Court.
Mitch McConnell failed to even allow President Barack Obama’s judicial nominee, Merrick Garland, to have a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee within 8 months before the November 2016 presidential election, claiming the people should decide the president who would decide the next Supreme Court nominee.
Then, as soon as Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg died, McConnell was already deciding how to put someone on the Supreme Court less than 2 months before the Nov 3, 2020 election. Beloved Notorious RBG was not even buried and Trump held his Rose Garden Barrett COVD-19 Super Spreader event where dozens of attendees became ill with COVID-19 because invitees failed to wear masks or social distance.
Now, with additional information surfacing about Amy Coney Barrett that confirms doubts about her ability to be an unbiased judge, it’s clear that this confirmation process now needs to be halted until after the next president is installed on January 20, 2021.
As Senators Graham, McConnell and Tillis said in 2016: The people should have a voice and the next president of the US should be the one to nominate a Supreme Court justice in an election year.
Let’s remember that Senators Graham, McConnell and Tillis are all on the ballot for 2020. Now would be a good time to vote them all out.
Do you want hypocrites in the Senate who go back on their word? It’s time to have Senators who will work for their constituents and the American people:
Please Vote and:
VOTE FOR: Amy McGrath for Senator in Kentucky, and vote out Senator Mitch McConnell
VOTE FOR: Jaime Harrison for Senator of South Carolina, and thereby vote out Lindsey Graham
VOTE FOR: Cal Cunningham for Senator of North Carolina, and thereby vote out Thom Tillis
